Surgical Excision and other Tattoo Removal Procedures

Posted by admin in Cosmetic Health on 03 5th, 2010 | no responses

Most people get tattoos because it marks something significant in their life, while others just want them because they think tattoos look good. There are various reasons why people want to get rid of the tattoos in their body. Some want them removed because they think it is not as important as when they first had it.

One of the most popular procedures today is surgical excision, which involves removing the tattooed skin using a scalpel or any similar surgical blade and stitching the resulting epidermal breach. Unlike most tattooing procedures, the area is injected with a local anesthetic before surgery begins.

This procedure is particularly recommended for small tattoos, though it can still be used for bigger tattoos, which involves removal of the tattooed skin and covering of the area with a skin graft that is taken from another part of the body.

Surgical excision is really effective, but like all surgeries, it will leave a scar.

Other tattoo removal procedures include:

• Laser Removal – also one of the most sought after skin treatment available. It works by having a highly concentrated light targeting the ink on the skin and eliminating them, leaving the skin scarred.
• Intense Pulsed Light Therapy – or IPL. It is a dermal enhancer using high intensity light (instead of laser light) on the skin that has been applied with a special gel.
• DIY Creams – like TatBGone and Tattoo-OFF. According to the Tattoo Removal Institute research, the products showed positive effects without doing any damage to the skin.
